On May 16th hundreds of boxing fans crowded the forum in Inglewood. A majority of these fans chanted loudly for the biggest fight of the night: Triple G vs. Monroe.
“Everyone wants Triple G to win,” Eric, a 16 year-old fan, yelled over the crowd. “Because he’s a fucking beast!” he said with enthusiasm.
Monroe jumped up and down excitedly as the announcer called his name. He lifted his gloves in the air as the crowd booed at him. He smiled in response. Renae Gonzalez yelled to support Monroe.
“Woooo! Yeah Willie!” she screamed. Her husband, Alex, laughed at her and booed while staring down at the ring. “Everyone is so mean. Someone needs to cheer for him,” she said as she stared at the screen above the ring.
As the announcer called out Golovkin’s name the entire crowd chanted with approval.
“Tri-ple G!, Tri-ple G!” they yelled.
Triple G swayed from left to right determination clear on his face. His entourage stood behind him three men holding his WBA and IBO middleweight championships over their heads. The announcer yelled his name and Triple G kissed his glove and fist bumped it into the air.
The bell rang starting the fight and Triple G blocked his face with his gloves poised while Monroe kept his gloves separated and ready to aim for Triple G. They bounced back and forth; twice Monroe started hugging Triple G after Triple G attacked him with powerful hits to his body, luckily for Monroe the bell rung just in time.

Round two started and Triple G landed a left punch in Monroe’s face knocking him down. The crowd stood eagerly.
“Already?! Already?!” a man yelled to his friends.
“Come on Willie! Recover!” Renae yelled.
Monroe finally got to his feet and the referee stopped counting at eight. Monroe nodded that he was able to go on and the fight continued. Triple G charged and Monroe tried to recover with quick punches but Triple G still managed to get Monroe against the ropes. Golovkin had more control over the fight and Monroe went down for the second time.
“No!” Renae yelled.
“Yeah!” Alex yelled laughing in his wife’s face.
Monroe shook his head, clearly disappointed in how his fight was turning out. He stood up quickly and the fight started again and it was obvious that Triple G won round two as he landed most of his punches to Monroe’s face and body.
Round three was not as intense as the first two rounds but round 4 made the crowd antsy as Monroe threw and landed powerful punches on Triple G.
“Oh, now he wants to fight!” a man yelled.
The round ended but Triple G went into the next round even more determined. In round five, Triple G attacked Monroe with powerful hits. Monroe ducked and wobbled on his feet as Triple G landed a good punch to Monroe’s temple and the fight ends without a knockout.
The bell rung starting the sixth round and Triple G trapped Monroe against the ropes. Triple G used this to his advantage and landed every hit against Monroe’s face. Monroe went down and the crowd stood and went insane. “He got em! It’s over! Over!” Eric screamed.
Monroe stood as the referee stopped counting at nine. Fans stared at the ring, Monroe shook his head at the referee. The referee shook his head and waved his arms, ending the fight. Triple G threw his gloves into the air as everyone screamed eagerly.
“No!” Renae whined. Alex smiled at her brightly and formed his hands around his mouth to make sure his voice was heard.
“Tri-ple G! Tri-ple G!”
